DESIGN WORKSHOP A SUCCESS
Fun Finds & Designs’ second Design Workshop, highlighting Designers Donna Honkomp and Rande Miller, was a great success, with over 50 people participating.
Donna, of DLN Design Solutions inspired us with her “out of the box” table designs, utilizing fresh vegetables and out of the ordinary table accessories, including a rubber boot from Maine, an antique pan, antique level and wooden duck, among other oddities. Her first table included raw asparagus wrapped candles, a cored artichoke used as a votive holder and a crock filled with green onions, whole artichoke and grapes draped over the neck for drama. She topped off these items with orange ribbon and small oranges – the color drawn from her inspiration piece ( a small melamine cereal bowl in green, orange and browns). Combined with her colorful plates and napkins, it made for a festive tablescape. Secondly, she had our mouths drooling with her Maine inspired lobster feast, featuring a centerpiece of the black rubber boot filled with brown willow branches, surrounded by a wooden duck and festive candles. She incorporated small kitchen towels instead of your standard napkins to be sure to catch the butter drool from the lobsters. Blacks, browns, creams were the color palette which complimented the idea of the orange lobster tails. All in all an inspired presentation and all easy to do yourself.
Second on the program was Randi Miller, of M&H Decorating and Design, floral designer extraordinaire. His floral creations were inventive, unique and spectacular. He incorporated folliage from the backyard, including greenery clipped from ordinary trees and bushes, which he used as a lush background for his grocery store flowers (including daisies, carnations, lillies, astromeria, and even some backyard herbs, such as rosemary, thai basil, mint and sage.) Volunteers from the audience were able to participate in two original floral arrangements with basic instruction on construction and design, with terrific results. After Randi’s presentation all of the floral arrangements were raffled and 12 very excited attendees went home with flowers in hand.
Holli Spell from the “Traveling Vineyard”, furnished the wonderful wine for our gathering and Lynne Wingfield of Chocolate Fix created wonderful chocolates and desserts for the event.
All and all, everyone enjoyed the evening and are already asking when is the next workshop scheduled.
A big thank you to all who attended and participated. We loved it. Betty
