Another successful Design Workshop
Well it was raining buckets, we couldn’t find the wine opener, and the food was late, but we still had a fantastic time at the 3rd Fun Finds and Designs workshop. 83 people weathered the storm (literally) to hear Kathleen Toner, “Queen of Color”, share her knowledge and expertise on color pallettes, color combinations, new color trends, and great helpful hints on how you can choose your color pallette with great success. She was partnered with Kathy Anders, faux finisher from Alpharetta, who showed us terrific samples of venetian plasters, metallics, stucco, glazes and some gorgeous possibilities for not ony your walls, but also your ceilings and your woodwork.
The key color tips to make your color selections and your life easier:
1. Find an inspiration piece prior to going to the paint store. Select a fabric, piece of art, pictures from a magazine, a rug, or anything that you find that you love the color pallette.
2. When you take your paint selection home, hold it up to a white background to determine the actual color in your room.
3. When you are looking at a selection of colors together, think about your wardrobe. When you are dressing in the morning you instinctively know what colors go together. When you are picking colors for your walls, imagine you are dressing yourself and ask, would I wear these colors together? If the answer is no, you are not going to be any happier with those colors on your walls.
4. How about your trim. White is not always the best choice. Go back to your wardrobe. Consider would you wear white shoes with every outfit you wear. Of course not. Transfer that thinking to your color selections in your home. If you can’t imagine wearing a pair of white shoes with your color choices, don’t paint white.
5. Paint your doors dark. Lot’s of beautiful color choices for your doors. If you want to know more about how to make that statement in your home, call Betty @ FF&D and she will walk through it with you.
6. Paint your ceilings – lots of soft choices for your ceilings. Call Betty and she will give you some specific ideas.
7. Gray is the new neutral. All shades mixed with some fabulous accent colors, such as orange, gold, raspberry, peacock blue, citrus green. Lots of possibilities with this otherwise questionable color. Many fabulous examples shown.
These are a few of the main ideas that were discussed and many visuals used to help bring it all together.
F0r those of you that were unable to attend, Kathleen is making available the notes from the workshop for $10.00. If you want a color pallette to go with it, she will include the most recent color selections for an additional $15.00. Also, if you want personal attention for your home selections you can visit Kathleen at Northside Decorating on Roswell Road in Roswell or come on in to Fun Finds and Donna or Betty can help you figure it all out.

Thank you so much for hosting another fabulous event! It was well worth weathering the storm. Wet and weary, Leslie greeted me with a big smile and a glass of wine. She pointed me towards one of the few available seats. I quickly forgot about the 2 hour commute. Kathy was awesome, awesome, awesome! She is very knowledeable and I enjoyed her color stories. I must say I was initially disappointed to hear that gray was the new color. However, once I saw the beautiful design boards with the fabric options I was sold. The store looked amazing. Lots of “WOW” piece to choose from. You never know what you will find.
I’m looking forward to the next event. Thanks for sharing your incredible design talent and making it affordable. You are the best!
